Shakespeare was active 1589 (The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Taming is the Shrew)-1613 (Henry VIII and The Two Noble Kinsmen)

Characters: Othello (Moorish general), Desdemona (his wife), Iago (unfaithful ensign), Cassio, Roderigo

Plot: Iago hates Othello for promoting Cassio above Hom, manipulates Roderigo, who’s jealous because he loves Desdemona

Quotes: “I will wear my heart upon my sleeve”
“Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft got without merit, and lost without deserving”

Macbeth

A

1606 Shakespeare Play

Key characters: Macbeth (brave Scottish general), three witches, King Duncan, Malcolm, Macduff

Plot: withes tell Macbeth he will become King of Scotland, consumed by ambition and spurred by his wife he murders King Duncan. Then wracked with dear and paranoia, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth descend into madness. Macduff kills Macbeth, Malcom ascends to the throne.

Quotes: “Double, double, toil and trouble”
“Out damned spot”
“When shall we three meet again?”

Referred to as the Scottish Play, bad luck to refer to it in a theater
