What is a Octave/sestet?
The octave, eight lines, presents a situation or idea.
A sestet (sextet), six lines, responds to the situation or idea in the octave
What is a quatrain?
Each quatrain 4 lines, describes an idea or situation which leads to a conclusion or response in the couplet
What is a couplet?
conclusion or response of a quatrain, 2 lines

Why is Shakespeare connected to Iambic Pentameter?
a majority of his writing is written in Iambic pentameter. It is also what contributes to Shakespeare’s writing to sound so musical
What is a foot?
a certain number of stressed/unstressed syllables forming a distant unit
What is a dactyl?
a metrical foot of 3 syllables
What is a trochee?
a stressed syllable, followed by an unstressed one
How is the Iamb different from the Trochee?
its a reverse trochee (first is unstressed, 2nd is stressed)

Why does Shakespeare use Iambic pentameter?
It was easiest for his actors to memorize and the audience to understand. It follows the rhythm of the heart!
