Shading
using darker and lighter values to make a drawing seem more three dimensional
Value
the darkness or lightness of objects and or colors
Value scale
shows a color/value from dark to light in even steps
Contrast

Highlight
The lightest area of an object were the light source hits the object
mid tone
middle values transition into shadow
Core shadow
darkest part of the object, shadow side
Reflective light
always located on the shadow side of an object, light bounces from the surface the object is sitting on (or in surrounding object) back onto the object, a dull light in comparison to the highlight
Cast shadow
caused by form blocking light , a shadow is cast by that form onto another surface
Blending
A smooth transition from one value/color to another
