Sexual reproduction in plants Flashcards
Megagometogenesis
- diploid nucleus goes through meiosis to produce 4 haploid megaspore
- than mitosis to produce megaspore + 3 disintegrate
mitosis again to produce: - 7 cells with 8 nuclei
- 1 egg cell
- 3 antipodal cell - for nutrients
- 2 synergid cell - direct the pollen tube growth
- 2 polar nucleus
Microgametogenesis
- diploid microspore goes through meiosis to produce 2 haploid microspore
- than meiosis 2 to produce 4 haploid microspore
mitosis again to produce: - 1 pollen
- tube cell - fuses with the embryo sac
- generative cell - mitosis occurs 1 fuses with 2 polar polar nucleus - triploid endosperm than the other fuses with female egg cell which produces diploid zygote
what is pollination ?
when a pollen grain lands on the stigma of a plant of the same species
what are the two types of pollination called ?
- self pollination
- cross pollination
Self pollination
occurs when pollen is transferred from the anther to stigma of the same plant
Cross pollination
occurs when pollen is transferred from the anther of one plant to the stigma of another plant
