This section applies in all cases where either the defendant or the complainant is a NZ citizen or is ordinarily a resident in NZ, whether or not the offence occurred in NZ.

• At the time he/she took the action concerned, believed on reasonable grounds the YP was of or over the age of 16 years

Having met or communicated with a YP on an earlier occasion:

• Intentionally meets the YP
• Travels with intention of meeting YP
• Arranges for or persuades YP with intention of meeting him or her

Intends on action that is offence against ‘this part or 98AA(1)

When is the offence of meeting the young person in sexual grooming complete?

Answer 5

The offence is complete when the parties meet, or the defendant travels or makes arrangements to meet the complainant with the relevant intent. To be intentional the meeting need only be ‘purposely arranged’.
