-sex is a persons biological status as male or female, determined by different chromosomes

- set of shared expectations that people within a culture believe is acceptable for males and females
- are reinforced within society
- leads to the formation of sexist assumptions

A
- refers to a persons psychosocial status as masculine or feminine
- including behaviours normally associated with being male/female and r influenced by social norms
- gender is a result of the environment (nurture)
- it is a learned concept

- some people’s biological sexes do not correspond with the way they feel inside (their gender)
