Scheme theory

A

The gender scheme theory is the mental building blocks of gender knowledge.
Our first blocks are whether we r male or female. Then if others r male or female. Gradually through seeing and experienced get we develop and add blocks of knowledge about gender.
Block become more flexible with time.
EVALUATION
- well supported by evidence as it is very detailed
- has intuitive appeal
- doesn’t explain why gender begins to develop at the age of two

Psychodynamic Theory

A

Fried beloved everyone went through stages and develops gender in the third stage the phallic stage , with in which children’s IDs have sexual desires o the opposite sex parent to resolve this the child identifys with the same sex parent,
Girls this is the Electra complex
Boys this is the Oedipus complex.
EVALUATION
-difficult to test as they are base on unconscious thoughts and feelings
- not everyone with a single sex parent household is gay
- little evidence to support the idea

Social learning theory

A

Social learning theory is the belief that gender is learnt through watching and copying the behaviour of others. Which involved modelling mh imitation and vicarious reinforcement. Modelling is an adult acting as a role model.
EVALUATION
-has intuitive appeal
- well supported with evidence
- doesn’t explain how two children raised in the same household the same way with the same role model can bag ace differently

Aim ; to find out how 3-6 year older imitate behaviour on a doll
Method; children saw either a same sex or an opposite sex adult behave either calmly or aggressively towards s doll.
Results; children imitated same sex role model more than opposite sex role model.
Conclusion: imitate same sex role model.
