What is genetic sex

What is pheynotypic sex?
external appearance determined by endocrine influences
What is legal sex?
sex used for official documents.
In cases where phenotypic gender is uncertain at birth it may be assigned later in life.
What is sexual determination dependant on?
it is a genetically controlled process dependant on the Y chromosome.
What is the key gene in sexual determination?
the SRY (sex determining region Y) which determines whether a testis or ovary will form.
formation of testis then regulates sexual differentiation.
What develops from the wolffian duct? (4)
epididymis
vas deferens
seminal vesicles
ejaculatory duct
What develops from the mullerian ducts? (3)
fallopian tubes
uterus
upper part of vagina
What develops from the mullerian ducts? (3)
fallopian tubes
uterus
upper 1/3rd part of vagina
What do the sertoli cells do?
express SRY
produce AMH which inhibitis mullerian duct formation
What do Leydig cells do?
Do not express SRY
produce testosterone which stimulates wolffian ducts
