Sewing tools and equipment
Are generally used in obtaining body and fabric measurement. They are also helpful when drafting pattern and assembling garments.
Measuring tools
Is a 60-inch-long measuring device used to take body measurements, draft patterns, and perform other measuring activities.
Tape measure
Is a 6-inch-long device with a movable indicator convenient to measure short lengths such as hem, seam, buttonholes, and pleats.
Gauge
Is a 12-inch-long device marked off in inches and centimeters used to measure small details such as seams and hems.
Ruler
Is used to measure fabric length and check grain line. It can also be used to mark a long straight line and to measure hem length.
Yardstick or meterstick
It facilitates patternmaking. They are used to make perpendicular lines and to shape curved parts of a garment
Drafting tools
Is also called tailor’s square and is used to draw perpendicular lines, to maintain square corners, and to draft pattern because of its divisional part. It can also be used to obtain crotch measurement.
L-square
Is also called curve stick and is used to shape slightly curved points on hipline, hemline, and lapel.
Hip curve
Is used to shape armholes, necklines, and collars.
French curve
Are used to cut, trim, and clip fabrics and seams.
Cutting tools
Is a 7 to 8-inch-long scissors with bent handles suitable to cut fabric.
Cutting shears
Are 6-inch-long scissors used to trim and clip seams and cut thread ends.
Trimming scissors
Are scissors with zigzag blades used to finish hem edges and seams
Pinking scissors
Is a handy tool used to take out seams and remove unwanted stitches incase of sewing error
