Sewage Treatment Flashcards
When should be provided?
When government sewage is not provided. For small group of houses, less than 100,septic tank can be used. A plant may be needed for residential development
Septic tank
Recives the soil waste water and separated into scum sludge adn effluent.
Sewage treatment plant
For development with more than 100 occupants. Quality equal or higher than the water quality of the discharge point.
Types of SPT
Aerated treatment package unit
Roaring Biological Contractor (RBC)
How does a septic tank work
Inside the septic tank the bacteria converts part of the sludge into gases by aerobic decomposition.
The effluent flows into the soakaway pit with filter medium. It enhances further treatment of the effluent.
Discharge seeps into soil.
Where should not be located the pit?
Close to river, stream, building foundation or water catchment
What makes the SPT simple or complicated system?
Depending on the effluent loading
What is an Aerated Treatment Package unit?
Consist of a sediment tank, aeration and chlorination
How does a RBC works?
Raw waste water goes into the primary treatment tank
The treated water goes to the secondary tank
The first tank removes screened and sewage and settable soil
The effluent contacts with the surface or RBC on which micro-organism are planted
The secondary tank filters the effluent and removes the suspended solids before discharging.
The rotation and subsequent exposure allows micros to multiply forming biomass causing degradation of pollutants
