Purpose
came from 9 needle arrow head needle applied for 1000 years cutaneous needle =infants seven star needle=plum blossom needle -stimulates skin superficially - Applied in a broader surface area - Less painful than the regular needles (depends. Japanese technique less painful than Chinese)

Cervical-Thorax-Lumbar
(treating all of CNS/all of internal organs)
(if patient just “off”- go down both sides of spine
from medial to lateral)
close to spine- lateral side
Areas to be tapped
along course of meridians on the points selected HT=T5 LV=T9 on the affected area (as long as skin not inflamed/infected/broken) along both sides of spinal column can tap meridian- then focus on point
Amount of tapping
Mild tapping - Tap until the skin becomes slightly red. - For chronic and deficient diseases: qi cleft pt. for pain Yin Spring pt heat He she for phlegm/dampness

Heavy tapping (causes bleeding)
- Tap until the skin becomes red and moist. Occasionally there is slight
bleeding. Generally, bleeding is avoided- but sometimes intentionally bleed to clear heat eg Du14- until it bleeds then put cup on top - For acute and excess diseases -especially heat-esp top of head/above neck (comes from arrow head needle used for clearing heat)
Indications
Hypertension-Du 14 or very bottom of body
Headache- neck/shoulder
Myopia- shoulder area or next to eye-eyebrow around onto cheek
eye Pts= LI4, LI11, LI14, GB20, GB37, KD7, LV3
Dysmenorrhea-lower leg, SP, LV, KD channel or hand or lower back
Intercostal neuralgia-along intercostal spaces- skip blisters
GI problems- ST36, SP6 or 4, KD 34
Skin diseases -not where abnormal. SP10, GB 31, SP6, LI11, UB40
Bells Palsy. LI4, GB34, locally
Facial rejuvination
Alopecia, where is haor loss
contra-indications
Area of ulcerations
Areas of traumatic injury-if long time ago=ok-so long as not “hot”
Acute infectious diseases-go to hospital
Acute abdominal disorders-go to hospital
precautions
The tip of the needles should strike the skin at a right angle.
Disinfect the skin before tapping.
If the bleeding happens, clean the area to prevent infection.

Clean field gloves shield cotton bals alcohol wipes sanitizer
procedure
wash hands
open needle packet-keep needle inside
wipe points-always wipe before tapping new area)
put on gloves/shield
2nd hand wash (on top of gloves)
p/u needle-tap til feel better or skin color changes
put in sharps container
