The expansion of towns and cities into the surrounding rural area or countryside
Urban decay
When parts of the city become run down and undesirable to live in.
Examples of urban decay
Slum housing, with outside toilets, overcrowding, no hot water or central heating.
Buildings in disrepair with leaking roofs, draughty windows and crumbling brickwork.
Empty buildings boarded up or vandalized.
