A

It is a small cluster of houses. It usually has no functions although possibly with a post box.

A

A village can vary in size, but it usually has up to a few thousand people. Its function could be either a shop, church, post office, a village hall and possibly a primary school.

A

it has a population of several tens of thousands of people. Its function is the same as a village’s but they have chain stores and other famous shops. They may have a railway station, hospital, sports centre and secondary schools.

A

A city has a population of more than 100,000 people (with the exception of some “Cathedral Cities”). Their functions are the same as the town’s, the hamlet’s and the village’s. It may also have a large shopping centre, railway station, theatre and possibly an airport.

A

A conurbation is formed by the outward growth of a city capturing once separate villages and towns to form a large “Continuous urban region”. Its function include all the functions of towns, villages, hamlets and cities.

A

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
