Setting Teeth for RPD Flashcards
What must be considered in CoCr dentures when setting teeth?
the design for bonding to metal base
What are the two materials for artificial teeth?
acrylic
porcelain
What are the advantages to acrylic teeth?
§ Chemical bond with the denture base
§ Natural appearance and are silent during function
§ Tough
§ Soft-low abrasion resistance
§ Easily trimmed and polished/customised
§ Cold flow under pressure
How are porcelain teeth bonded to the denture base?
Mechanical bond with the denture base is provided by a metal retention pin incorporated within the tooth on anterior teeth.
Posterior teeth have a hollowed area that will fill with the denture base.
What are the usual shapes for tooth selection?
square
ovoid
tapered
What can high cusps cause?
tilt the tooth
When adjusting the tooth mould, where should material be removed from? i.e during polishing
the ridge lap
What does reducing the ridge lap mean?
The more the ridge lap is reduced the less bonding area is available.
What three views should you look at before removing surface?
frontal - for width/length
sagittal - for labial projection/tilt
occlusal - for conformation with patient’s natural arch
How should the tooth guidance be checked?
canine teeth
or groups of teeth such as the premolars
What is the trial denture?
A trial to establish tooth position/finishing lines may be used for cobalt chromium then teeth are positioned onto the Co Cr base once constructed for trial.
How is trial denture stage carried out?
Rigid base with wax saddle
*Light-cured acrylic or shellac
*Duplicate cast or Master cast blocked out with plaster
*Clasps may be incorporated if required
How can symmetry be assured?
*Set the teeth to the long axis of the corresponding tooth.
*Contact points should also correspond to the natural dentition
