What does the physical position of the Harness room tell you about the way Crooks is treated?
He is treated in an inhuman manner as he is right next to the horses. He is ostracized
Significance of the sound of the halter chains
“rattle of halter chains” used to tie the horses could be a symbol of slavery. Steinbeck suggests that slavery is still happening. The new “chains” are the social constrains placed on African-Americans
