Sets Flashcards
What are sets?
A set is a well defined collection of objects or elements.
What is the union of sets?
The union of two or more sets is the group of all the elements formed by combining the given sets.
(It’s a subset from the main set)
What is the intersection of sets?
The intersection of two or more sets is the group of all elements that are common to the sets given.
(It is a subset from the main set)
What are disjoint sets?
Disjoint sets have no elements in common. No intersection is present. The intersection would be an empty set.
What is the complement of a set?
The complement of a set is the set of elements in the universal set not present in the given set.
What is the difference of sets?
The difference of a set is to subtract one set from the other. Which would list all the elements in the minuend excluding the intersection.
A (elements) minuend - B (elements) subtrahend = A (elements)
