Description

Paradigm

Context
The manner in which a person engages with an object or event
Participation
A works “big idea” that the artist attempts to convey to the audience
Concept
The action for which a person or thing is particularly fitted or employed
Function
Artistic pursuits beyond function. These often are related to self-expression, or self-gratification

Artwork that is instructional or informative. That which teaches the audience something.
Didactic
That which causes discord or disharmony
Disruptive
A work that holds the attention and interest of an audience, giving pleasure and delight
Entertainment
Art that persuades the viewer to engage in a certain practice or think a specific way
Propaganda
Art that provokes in the viewer a feeling or transcendence such as wonder and awe. Of high spiritual or intellectual worth
Sublime
Works of art that are considered by certain people or institutions as constituting the greatest works of artistic merit. These are generally studied, referenced, and exhibited more than other works
Canon
Is the social relationship of objects in which someone enters. Reflects asymmetrical power relationships
Gaze
A language of symbols that has been utilized over time to signify a certain object or concept
