Assist

Bounce
A direct pass thrown from the passer’s chest to the receiver’s chest using both hands.
Chest Pass
Bouncing the ball continuously with one hand while moving, allowing the player to advance on the court.
Dribble
An infraction of the rules, usually involving illegal physical contact with an opponent.
Foul
A basketball shot worth one point that must be made from behind a specific line and is given because of a foul by an opponent
Free Throw
Defensively covering an opponent to prevent them from scoring or receiving the ball.
Guarding
Additional playing time added if the game is tied at the end of regulation.
Overtime
A foul that involves illegal physical contact with an opponent, counted against the player.
Personal Foul
Control of the ball by a team or player, determining which team is allowed to play offense.
Possession
Gaining possession of the ball after a missed field goal or free throw attempt.
Rebound
Officials who oversee the game, enforce the rules, and ensure fair play.
Referees
Attempting to score by throwing the ball into the opponent’s basket.
Shoot
A timer designed to increase the pace of the game by limiting the time a team has to attempt a shot.
Shot Clock
A powerful shot where a player jumps and forcefully scores by pushing the ball directly through the hoop with one or both hands.
