what rights does a person in custody have?

A
  • Right to read a copy of the codes of practice that govern the detention of persons at a police station.
  • Right to consult privately with a solicitor either in person or on the phone, free of charge and independent of the police.
  • Right to have someone informed of their arrest. Not associate with the offence under investigation.
