Drug Class: Loop Diuretics

Mechanism of Action: Inhibit Na/K/2Cl channel in ascending limb of LoH

Common Indicators: Chronic HF, Pulmonary Oedema, Nephrotic syndrome, Ascites

ADRs: Hypokalaemia, Hyponatraemia, Gout (arthritis), Hepatic encephalopathy

Important drug-drug rxns: Aminoglycosides, Digoxin, Lithium

Amiloride

A

Drug Class: K+ Sparing Diuretic

Mechanism of Action: Blocks ENaC Channels in DCT, decreasing Na+ reabsorption, reducing K+ excretion at the LoH

Common Indicators: Given with Thiazides & Loop Diuretics to limit K+ loss

ADRs: Hyperkalaemia, Arrhythmias, Acidosis

Important drug-drug rxns: Other K+ sparing drugs, ACEi, ARBs
