define homelessness
To be legally defined as homeless you must either lack a secure place in which you are entitled to live or not reasonably be able to stay. However, in order to receive a lot of the available assistance eg from crisis, there are further strict criteria that you have to meet.
outline physical, psychological and logistical barriers for homeless people being unable to access care.
physical:
- lack of fascilities nearby
- poor physical health
- weather conditions
- substance abuse issues
psychological:
- mental health disorders
- mistrust of the healthcare system
- fear of judgement
- lack of awareness
- stigma and shame
logistical:
- lack of ID and documents
- lack of GP registration
- financial constraints
- transportation issues
- lack of continuity of care
time and scheduling conflict
