Session 3 - Carbon footprint and Carbon neutrality Flashcards
a.) What is the definition of Net Zero?
b.) What are the different steps to achieve it?
a.) Net Zero is achieving a balance between emitted and removed greenhouse gases from the atmosphere
b.)
1. Peaking As soon as possible
- Halving -50% every 10 years
- Neutralizing Capture the residual emissions
It’s the same for company;
1 & 2: Reduce and avoid emissions within your value chain.
3: Fund projects outside your value chain to compensate.
4: Remove carbon to balance out remaining emissions
Why do we need to assess (bedöma) the carbon footprint?
We assess the carbon footprint to measure and reduce our impact on climate change
(The carbon footprint assessment is the sum of your flows within the value chain)
a.) What is the principle of GHG emissions calculation for a given activity?
b.) What are the associated challenges?
a.) GHG emissions of the activity = Data from activity x Emission factor
b.) The main challenges include data accuracy, incomplete or unavailable data, and accounting for emissions across complex supply chains (30% incorrect)
What are the different scopes of a carbon footprint?
Scope 1 - Direct emissions, air conditioning and refrigeration
Scope 2 - Indirect emissions associated with energy, related to electricity consumption
Scope 3 - Other indirect emissions, logistic, wastes, etc. Are the largest and significant GHG emissions
(The biggest environmental impact occurs upstream in their supply chain, or downstream once the product is in the hands of the consumer)
