Session 2- Hernias And Gut Development Flashcards
What are the borders of the inguinal canal?
Anterior Wall-
Posterior Wall-
Floor-
Roof-
Anterior Wall- Aponeurosis of the external oblique + lateral reinforcement by internal oblique
Posterior Wall- Transversalis fascia
Floor- Inguinal Ligament, thickened medially by the lacunar ligament
Roof- Transversalis fascia, internal oblique, transversus abdominis
What are the borders of Hesselbachs triangle
Medially- Lateral border of rectus abdomus
Inferior- Medial portion of the inguinal ligament
Superior - The inferior border of the inferior epigastric vessels
Describe the route of an indirect inguinal hernia
Through the deep ring of the inguinal canal lateral to the epigastric vessels and then out of the superficial ring.
Describe the route of a direct hernia?
Bulges through the weakness of Hesselbachs triangle and out of the superficial inguinal ring
What is the difference between the mid-inguinal point and the midpoint of the inguinal ligament?
Mid-inguinal point- Halfway between the pubic symphysis and the ASIS, the femoral pulse can be palpated here
The Midpoint of the Inguinal ligament- Halfway between the pubic tubercle and the ASIS, the opening of the inguinal canal is just above this point
What are the 3 divisions of mesoderm?
Lateral, Parietal and Paraxial
What is the difference between Splanchnic and somatic viscera?
Splanchnic forms viscera. Somatic forms body walls and dermis
What is the name of the membrane in an embryo that goes onto to form the mouth
Buccopharyngeal membrane
What connects the greater and lesser sac of the peritoneum?
Foramen of Winslow
What connects the liver to the anterior abdominal wall?
Falciform Ligament
What muscles aponeurosis is the inguinal ligament derived?
External Oblique
