Session 2 Flashcards
Function of the nervous system
To control all the organs and structures and relate the individual to his environment
Chiropractic science is…
The relationship between structure and function coordinated by the nervous system, and how that relationship affects the restoration and preservation of health.
What is The Cleveland Perspective?
- ) the body is a self-healing and self-regulatory organism
- ) the nervous system is the master system
- ) Vertebral subluxation complexes may effect the nervous system’s ability to regulate function
- ) It is the focus of a DC to correct and manage vertebral subluxation through the spinal adjustment
Examples of the art of chiropractic
Palpation, adjustment technique, identifying the indicators for an adjustment, assessing the outcome of care
Vis medicatrix naturae
The healing power of nature
The body heals itself
Innate intelligence
The intrinsic ability of an organism to react physiologically to changing internal and external conditions
Subluxation
Loss of proper motion or position of a spinal segment that may impact proper function of the nervous system
Homeostasis
Ability to maintain equilibrium of internal environment in response to external changes
Health or disease
Expressions of success or failure experienced by an organism from its efforts to respond adaptively to environmental changes
Wellness
A state of health in which an individual progresses towards higher levels of functioning, achieving a balance between internal and external environments
The purpose of chiropractic is…
To optimize health
What is the focus of a DC?
The focus is to maintain proper spinal function and its relationship to the nervous system and good health.
Bonesetting
Practitioners of joint manipulation who may also reduce joint dislocations or ‘re-set’ bone fractures
Magnetic Healing
Subjecting the body to magnetostatic fields produced by permanent magnets that effected a magnetic fluid in the bodies of animate organisms. However, it morphed into a more hands-on technique that involved vigorous rubbing and possibly some manipulation.
Heroic medicine
Treatment which posed a high risk of causing more harm to a patient’s health. Sought to release toxins from the body through blood letting, harsh purgatives, or emetics.
