Q

What artery is labelled X?

A. Anterior interventricular artery
B. Circumflex artery
C. Left coronary artery (left main stem)
D. Right coronary artery
E. Right marginal artery

[TopHat –> 126984 –> Assigned –> All Assigned –> CVS session 1 & 2 2018 –> Coronary Arteries 1]

A

D. Right coronary artery

The right coronary artery arises from the aorta just above the right cusp of the aortic valve in a region known as the right aortic sinus. It runs in the groove between the atria and ventricles to reach the posterior aspect of the heart.

Q

Visualiser anatomy

A

This here is the right atrium, right ventricle and we’ve got the right coronary artery that goes in that groove there – in atria and ventricle – in atrioventricular groove here. Circumflex artery can’t really see here but comes off left coronary artery.

4 - Coronary arteries

A
  • SVC
  • Ao
  • Pa
  • IVC
  • Right Ventricle
  • Left Ventricle
  • Right Coronary
  • Left Main Coronary
  • Circumflex
  • Left Anterior Descending
    From: Klabunde, Cardiovascular Physiology Concepts

reminder:
right and left coronary arteries arise from the right and left aortic sinuses

{Right: you might be presented with a 3D CT coronary angiogram – so not just from diagrams and pictures [potentially in IUPA] NetAnatomy.com to help you revise that.
RCA going round in groove between right atrium and right ventricle
Circumflex artery again goes round atrioventricular groove but on LHS coursing round as branch of left coronary artery
Anterior descending or anterior interventricular artery which goes down across interventricular septum – across where the right ventricle meets the left.

Remember, origins

  • the coronary sinuses is venous drainage at posterior aspect of heart
  • the origins are the very first branches of the aorta – from the RIGHT AND LEFT AORTIC SINUSES - like bulges in the aorta just above left and right aortic valve cusps.}
