Session 10: Measurement Error Flashcards
Dependent Non-Differential Misclassification
The misclassification of exposure and the misclassification of disease are linked; There is a common cause of misclassification of exposure and disease. This is non-differential because the exposure measure is independent of true disease status and the measure of disease is independent of true exposure status.
Differential Misclassification of Disease
The disease sensitivity and/or specificity is different for exposed and unexposed individuals.
Differential Misclassification of Exposure
The exposure sensitivity and/or specificity is different for diseased and non-diseased individuals.
False Negatives
Those classified as negative who are truly positive for the attribute being measured.
False Positives
Those classified as positive who are truly negative for the attribute being measured.
Sensitivity
The probability of correct classification for people with the attribute being measured.
Specificity
The probability of correct classification for people without the attribute being measured.
Positive Predictive Value
The probability of true positives among those classified as having attribute being measured.
Negative Predictive Value
The probability of true negatives among those classified as not having the attribute being measured.
Non-Differential Misclassification of Disease
When the misclassification of disease does not depend on true exposure status: the sensitivity and specificity of the disease measure is the same for exposed and unexposed individuals.
Non-Differential Misclassification of Exposure
When the misclassification of exposure does not depend on true disease status: the sensitivity and specificity of the exposure measure is the same for diseased and non-diseased individuals.
