Five Steps of Hand Washing
Wet hands and arms use running water as hot as you can comfortably stand.
Apply enough soap to build up a good lather.
Scrub hands and arms vigorously for 10-15 seconds clean under fingernails and between fingers.
Rinse hands and arms thoroughly using running warm water.
Dry hands and arms with paper towel or hand dryer.
Guidelines for keeping hands clean and not contaminating them after washing
Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet and to open the restroom door
Examples of when to wash hands
After using restroom, handling raw meat, taking out the garbage, touching your hair, face, or body, touching nothing sneezing coughing, using a tissue, handling chemicals, clearing dirty dishes, handling money, before putting a gloves on, handling services animals, smoking, eating or drinking, chewing gum or tobacco, leaving the kitchen area, touching anything that might contaminate your hands
