A
It is a neurotransmitter, a chemical, that exerts a calming inhibitory effect that reduces aggression and makes us ‘happy’.

What is the effect of low levels of serotonin?
A
Low levels remove the inhibitory effect and make individuals less able to control aggression and anger, which may result in criminal behaviour.
