Serology/Molecular Flashcards
Which antibodies will R1 adsorbing cells adsorb?
Alllo or auto-anti-D, C, e
What antibodies will an R2 adsorbing cell adsorb?
Allo or auto-anti-D,-c,-E
What antibodies will rr adsorbing cells adsorb?
Allo or auto-ant-c-e-f
What is the unifying hypothesis related to drug induced hemolytic anemia?
Comprehensive approach recognizing that DIHA may be caused by multiple mechanisms:
Antibody to drug
Antibody to the red cell membrane components
Antibody to the drug and membrane components
NIPA (Non-immunologic protein adsorption
Drug dependent antibodies divided into two categories
- Those that react with drug treated red cells (I.e. penicillin and some cephalosporins)
- Those that react with untreated red cells in the presence of a solution of the drug (quinine and ceftriaxone)
Drug-independent antibodies characteristics
- serologic reactivity is independent of the drug despite the fact that the drug originally induced the immune response
- behave like autoantibodies/serologically indistinguishable from idiopathic WAA
What are the most common drugs associated with Drug-Independent Autoantibody?
Methyldopa (not used as frequently)
Fludarabine (used to treat CLL)
Which antigens are destroyed by proteases?
M, N, Fya, Fyb,LW, YT, Dombrock, Knops
