Series and Parallel circuits Flashcards
What is an equivalent circuit?
An equivalent circuit is one with characteristics that are electrically the same as another circuit, but is generally simpler
What is Kirchhoff’s voltage Law?
The algebraic sum of the potential rises and drops around a closed path is zero (amount in is the same as amount out)
What is the voltage divider formula?
Vout = Vin (R2 / R1+R2)
What is a voltage divider?
A circuit consisting of series resistors across which
one or more output voltages are taken
What does open mean in circuits?
A circuit condition in which the current path
is broken
What is a short circuit?
A circuit condition in which there is zero or an
abnormally low resistance between two points;
usually an inadvertent condition
What is Kirchhoff’s current law?
The sum of the currents entering a node is equal to the sum of the currents leaving the node
What is the current divider formula?
Current1 = (R2 / R1+R2) x CurrentT
What’s the equation for Power dissipated by a resistor?
P = V^2/R
What is a current divider?
A parallel circuit in which the currents divide
inversely proportional to the parallel branch
