Series and Parallel Flashcards
Current in a series circuit
Same everywhere
Current in a parallel circuit
Current at each branch added together equals current from supply
Pd in a parallel circuit
All the same
Pd in a series circuit
Every pd added together equals pd from supply
Where should voltmeters go
Over what is wanted to measure
What does a diode do
Allows current to flow in ONE direction
Difference between LED diode and regular diode
They do the same things but LED gives out light
Kirchhoffs 1st law
Total current flowing into a point = current flowing out of that point
Kirchhoffs 2nd law
Around any closed loop in a circuit the sum of pds across all components = 0
Resistance in a series circuit
Total resistance is all the resistance added up
Resistance in a parallel circuit
1/R(total) = 1/R(1) + 1/R(2) + 1/R(3)
How is V(total) = V(1) + V(2) + V(3)
Because all energy is conserved
