Sequences Flashcards
Arithmetic Sequences
Sequences that have a common difference.
The common difference in the sequence is the amount of change that is added or subtracted to get from one term to the next term in the sequence.
Geometric Sequence
Sequences that have a common ratio, or multiplier.
The common ratio in the sequence is the amount you multiply by to get from one term to the next.
Complex patterns
have two patterns in them
Arithmetic Formula
The equation format for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence:
tn=a1+d(n-1)
nth term = first term + common difference (term number -1)
Geometric Formula
The equation format for the nth term of an geometric sequence:
tn=a1r^(n-1)
nth term = first term * common ratio ^(term number - 1)
