Q

What do blood tests show for reactive arthritis

A

FBC, ESR and CRP akin to ankylosing spondylitis. Serological tests mey help find antigens of causative organism (Salmonella, campylobacter, chlamydia etc)

Q

What must be done to eliminate possibility of septic arthritis for a reactive arhtritis diagnosis?

A

Aspiration of the joint synovial fluid. Cervical/penile swab or MSU sample also help exclude infection.

Q

WHat will X-rays show

A

Normal initially, joint desruction later on.

17
Q

What examination must be perfomed on a joint for suspected septic arthritis?

A

Joint fluid aspiration, sent for gram stain, culture, and examination for crystals

18
Q

How can septic arthritis be treated?

A

Analgesia and splinting, aspiration before antibiotics commence.
