sans culottes march to the tulleries
20,000 sans culottes 2,000 federes vs national guard
the king wass seeking santuary, defended by national guard and swiss guards (2-3k of them)
a two hour battle during which the palace was set of fire and nearly 1,000 sans culottes killed
the majority of the swiss guard and gentlemen at arms were massacres
outcome of the 10th august journee
paris commune removed the king to the temple prison, but instead of deposing him merely declared him ‘temporarily suspended)
it decreed to end the distinction between active and passive citizens and establish a new elected convention
17 august a special tribunal was set up to persecute traitors
26 august refractory priests given 2 weeks to leave the country
compensation to former seigneurs was cancelled (though promised by the AD)
