Define sepsis
A
Life threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection

What consitiutes organ dysfuncition?
A
Cardio:
SBP <90, MAP <65
Renal:
Oliguria <0.5ml/kg for 2hrs
Creatinine >177 mcmol/L
Hypoperfusion:
Serum lactate >2 ( if >4 mortality at 40%)
Hypoxia:
SpO” <90% or needs O2
Marrow/clotting
Platelets <100
INR >1.5

What is septic shock?
A
Sepsis + hypotension unresponsive to fluid
More serious than sepsis alone - >40% mortality

What is the sepsis 6?
A
BUFALO: Blood cultures - before Abx Urine - catheter Fluids - IV Abx - broad spec Lactate - serum Oxygen - high flow
All done within the 1st hour from when sepsis is suspected
