Q

How to carry out Chromatography?

A

Simple chromatography is carried out on paper. A spot of the mixture is placed near the bottom of a piece of chromatography paper and the paper is then placed upright in a suitable solvent, eg water. As the solvent soaks up the paper, it carries the mixtures with it.

Q

How does filtering work?

A

When a mixture of sand and water is filtered: the sand stays behind in the filter paper (it becomes the residue) the water passes through the filter paper (it becomes the filtrate)

Q

How is filtration useful?

A

To help to separate two substances from each other for example. When a mixture of sand and water is filtered: the sand stays behind in the filter paper (it becomes the residue) the water passes through the filter paper (it becomes the filtrate)
