  • Has 2 independent clauses
  • Basically, contains 2 simple sentences
  • Joined by a conjunction

Eg. The shoplifter had stolen clothes, so he ran from the police.

Independent clause #2 (so he ran from the police)

  • Independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses
  • Always has a subordinating conjunction OR a relative pronoun

Eg. After eating lunch at the restaurant, Tim went to exercise at the gym.
