Sentence which begins with a main idea and then expands on that idea with a series of details or other particulars
Cumulative
Commas used to separate a series of words ex/ x,y,z as opposed to x,y, and z
Asyndeton
Leaves out something in second half
Elliptical
Sentence consisting of three or more very short independent clauses joined by conjunctions
Freight train
Variation of the normal word order which puts a modifier or the verb first in the sentence
Inversion
Main idea( independent clause) comes first, followed by phrases or clauses
Loose
Sentence that begins by stating what is not true then ends by stating what is true
Negative positive construction
Ex/ when you are right you cannot be too radical, when you are wrong you cannot be too conservative
Parallelism
Presenting central meaning in a main clause at the end
Periodic
Sentence which uses and or another conjunction with no commas to separate items in a series ex/ x and y and z
Polysyndeton
Sentence’s verb and subject are split by phrases
