A

Compound Sentences

A

These contain two clauses which are of equal importance to the sentence, joined by coordinating conjunctions, e.g. “I went shopping and I bought some new school shoes.”

Complex Sentences

A
  • two or more clauses
  • later clauses are of lesser importance and rely on the first clause for meaning (subordinate clauses)
  • joined by subordinating conjunctions

e.g. “I went shopping because of the holes in my school shoes.”
