Compound
A compound sentence is a sentence that has at least two independent clauses joined by a comma, semicolon or conjunction
Complex
A complex sentence is a sentence that contains an independent clause and a dependent clause.
(She won’t pass the exam unless she studies a lot).
Loose
A loose or cumulative sentence is one in which the main idea (independent clause) comes first, followed by dependent clauses and phrases;
Periodic
a sentence that, by leaving the completion of its main clause to the end, produces an effect of suspense.
Balanced
A balanced sentence applies similar structures in equal lengths and proportions.
Parathetical
A parenthetical remark or section is put into something written or spoken but is not essential to it. Fox was making a long parenthetical remark about his travels on the border of the country.
Interrogative
The kind of sentence that asks a question and uses a question mark:
Fragment
A sentence fragment can be fixed by analyzing it to determine what parts of speech are missing.
“The white cat sleeping on my desk” is a sentence fragment.
Ellipses
ellipsis means leaving out words rather than repeating them unnecessarily.
Punctuation
Punctuation is the use of symbols such as full stops or periods, commas, or question marks to divide written words into sentences and clauses
