Sensory Testing Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 5 main tests
A
Proprioception Sharp and blunt 2 point sensation Stereognosis Light and deep
2
Q
What pathways are involved for each sensory test
A
Sharp and blunt travels via lateral spinothalamic tract, crosses in the spinal cord and goes to the thalamus to sensory cortex
All other tests transmit via dorsal column, which cross in medulla, synapses to thalamus to sensory cortex
3
Q
What outcome measure would be used for sensation
A
Nottingham sensory assessment
4
Q
Name some sensory receptors
A
Free nerve ending
Merkel discs
Pancinian corpuscles
5
Q
What parts of the nervous system does sensory testing assess(5)
A
Receptors Peripheral nerves Spinal cord Thalamus Sensory cortex
