Sensory, Relay and Motor Neurons Flashcards
1
Q
Name the three neurons
A
- Sensory
- Relay
- Motor
2
Q
Where is the location of the sensory neuron
A
PNS in clusters known as the ganglia
3
Q
Where is the location of the relay neuron
A
Brain and CNS
4
Q
Where is the location of the motor neuron
A
Cell bodies in CNS but long axons form part of PNS
5
Q
What is the function of the sensory neuron? (2)
A
- Sends information from senses in the PNS to the brain CNS
- Receptors found in ears, eyes, tongue , skin
6
Q
What is the function of the relay neuron? (2)
A
- Carry nerve impulses between neurons allowing sensory and motor neuron to communicate
- Analyse sensations from neurons and decide how to respond
7
Q
What is the function of the motor neuron? (1)
A
- Send information by long axons from brain/spinal cords to the effectors such as muscles and glands
8
Q
What is the structure of the sensory neuron?
A
Long dendrites and short axons
9
Q
What is the structure of the relay neuron?
A
Short dendrites and short axons and no myelin sheath
10
Q
What is the structure of the motor neuron?
A
Short dendrites and long axons
