What is syringomelia?
A
The central canal becomes enlarged to form a cavity compressing adjacent nerve fibres - specifically the spinothalamic one causing selective loss of pain and temperature awareness in the upper limbs.
Patient injures and burns the hands easily and joints become disorganised (Charcot’s joints).
