Sensory Loss Localization Flashcards
Peripheral Nerve
Loss of LT, T, PP and proprioception in affected area, distal muscle weakness, atrophy, areflexia
Root
Variable loss of sensory modalities, weakness in a myotome
Plexus
Sensory loss in distribution of 3 or more peripheral nerves
Spinal cord
Sensory level, bilateral loss of all modalities, sensory dissociation, contralateral hypoesthesia and ipsilateral loss of proprioception (Brown-Sequard), proprioceptive loss & CST involvement
Brainstem
Ipsilateral facial numbness and contralateral body numbness
Thalamus
Hemibody anesthesia, may have motor findings
Internal capsule (posterior limb)
Hemibody anesthesia and hemiplegia
Cortex
All modalities on contralateral side, sensory neglect
