A

spacial visceral afferent

  • *visceral information comes from the same area as somatosensory, but it travels though VII

Q

Glossopharyngeal IX

A

Special visceral afferent information, general somatic afferent; senses that food is in the back of the pharynx

  • *triggers sequence of motor events
  • posterior 1/3 of tongue (taste)
  • posterior 1/3 of tongue (somatosensory)
  • oropharynx
  • palatine tonsils

Q

Vagus X; Superior Laryngeal Nerve (SLN) – Internal branch

A

General somatic and special visceral afferent

  • *protects upper laryngeal vestibule ; if bolus enters laryngeal vestibule, a cough response is elicited bc of the SLN
  • area above the VF
  • mucosa of the laryngopharynx
  • mucosa of the epiglottis
  • mucosa of the aryepiglottic folds
  • small area of posterior tongue
  • joint receptors in the larynx
