1
Q

what are sensors

A

input devices which measure physical properties of the environment and translates this data into digital info which the computer can use

Q

describe the flowchart for a monitoring system

A

the sensor records and sends signals to a microprocessor
if signals need to be converted to digital they will be by a analogue to digital converter
The microprocessor then analyses the data by comparing the recieved values against stored values
If the values are outside the acceptable range then the microprocessor sends a warning signal to a peripheral (screen or alarm)

Q

describe a flowchart for a control system

A

the sensor records and sends signals to a microprocessor
if signals need to be converted to digital they will be by a analogue to digital converter
The microprocessor then analyses the data by comparing the recieved values against stored values
The microprocessor then analyses if the values are outside the acceptable range, if they are then it sends a signal to output, like a motor or actuator
This will action effect the values being recieved by the sensor and the cycle will start again. this is called a feedback loop

Q

what are Accelerometers and what are they used for (3)

A

sensors which detect change in motion, ie acceleration
used in cars to detect rapid deceleration - deployment of airbags
used in phones to switch to landscape when held in landscape

Q

what are flow sensors and what are they used for (3)

A

sensors which detect the flow rate of a liquid or gas by measuring the amount passing of a sensor
used in pipes ie gas pipes
used in respiratory devices in medicine to detect oxygen flow rate and inhalers

Q

what are Gas sensors and what are they used for (5)

A

Sensors which used various methods to detect a particular level of gas in an atmosphere
used in airports to monitor pollution
used in greenhouse to montior O2 and CO2 levels
used in car exhaust to check oxygen levels
Used in homes to check for carbon monoxide
