Sensation Review (1) Flashcards
This is the point at which we can start to sense something
- (seeing a light turn on)
Absolute Threshold
This is the point at which we can sense that something has changed.
- (Noticing lighting difference on both sides)
Difference Threshold
The reduction of a response to a stimulus after repeated presentations of that stimulus.
- (getting used to train sound near your house)
Habituation
The decrease in sensitivity to a stimulus due to constant exposure to that stimulus
- (getting used to the feeling of glasses resting on face)
Sensory Adaptation
A kind of stimulus that may be perceived and processed in the brain but is below our threshold for awareness.
Subliminal Stimulation
We are able to hear because this structure sends information to the auditory cortex of our temporal lobe.
Ear Model
We are able to see because this structure connects to the visual cortex in our occipital lobe.
