Sensation and Perception (Ep6+) Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the process of hearing
A
- Outer ear gathers sound waves and funnels them through the ear canal into the middle ear
- Sound vibrations cause the ear drum to vibrate
- Ear drum vibrations are amplified by oscicle bones (Stirrup, Hammer, Anvil)
- vibrations travel to inner ear where they vibrate the cochlea and it’s surrounding fluids get jostled around causing some of your 16 thousand tiny cochlea hair cells to bend
- This motion triggers neighbouring nerve cells that convert that physical energy into electronic pulse zipping up the auditory nerve into the auditory cortex
- auditory cortex desciphers what the sound is
2
Q
Describe the process of tasting
A
- The tongue has thousands of taste buds
- Each taste bud contains a pocket like pore which contains 50 to 100 hair like taste receptor cells that read food molecules then report back to the brain
3
Q
What is sensory interaction?

The production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body (Two or more sense getting wrapped together)
