Q

Describe the process of hearing

A
  • Outer ear gathers sound waves and funnels them through the ear canal into the middle ear
  • Sound vibrations cause the ear drum to vibrate
  • Ear drum vibrations are amplified by oscicle bones (Stirrup, Hammer, Anvil)
  • vibrations travel to inner ear where they vibrate the cochlea and it’s surrounding fluids get jostled around causing some of your 16 thousand tiny cochlea hair cells to bend
  • This motion triggers neighbouring nerve cells that convert that physical energy into electronic pulse zipping up the auditory nerve into the auditory cortex
  • auditory cortex desciphers what the sound is
