Senescence Flashcards
What is conjunctivochalasis?
Mechanical stress on inferior bulbar conj
Fold of redundant conj protruding over lower lid margin
Can obstruct the inferior punctum and disrupt the tear meniscus
epiphora and FB sensation
What is involutional ptosis?
Levator aponeurosis dehiscence, disinsertion, stretching - drooping of upper lid
What is involutional ectropion
Horizontal lower eyelid laxity leads to eversion of lower eyelid
Epiphora
Involutional entropion
Scarring of cornea when eyelid invert
What is arcus senillis
Bilateral deposition of cholesterol esters, triglycerides and phospholipids in peripheral cornea
Anterior to Descemet’s extend atneriorly and in Bowman’s extending posteriorly
Associated with hyperlipidaemia, atherosclerosis
What is the limbal girdle of Vogt
White opacities in medial and temporal libal cornea
Does not progress
Subepithelial elastosis like pingecula and pterygium
What are Ferry’s line
Adjacent of trab bleb
Where are Stocker’s lines
Precede migrating pterygiumHu
Hudson Stahli line
Tidemark at upper borde rof tear film
What are pingeculae
YEllow white deposit adjacent to the cornea
What are pterygia
Wing shpaed vascula overgrowths of conj tissue migrating onto cornea
hat is seen on histology of pingecula and pterygium
Actinic elastosis - degeneration of collagen fibres
Destruction of Bowman’s layer in pterygium
UV light association
What are glaukomflecken?
Grey white anteiror subcapsular or anteiror capsular opacities seen whtin the pupil in patients with acute or recurrent angle closure glaucoma
Where does vitreous detachment start
Parafoveally and extends anteirorly towards vitreous base
What is a Weiss ring
Vitreous cortex overlying optic nerve detaches, hole is created through which liquid filled vitreous drains out filling retrohyaloid space
