What is repetition?
When words or groups of words are repeated
E.g “repetition, repetition, repetition”
What are lists?
Words grouped together for a reason to emphasise something.
What is short and long sentence structure?
Short sentences are used to build up tension. Longer sentences may be used for explanation.
What is a rhetorical question?
A question asked to make a point, rather than get and answer.
What is syntax and inversion?
Syntax is the normal order of a sentence: subject > verb> object ( used to emphasise subject)
Inversion is the reverse of syntax: object> verb> subject (used to place emphasis on a particular word)
E.g the cat sat on the mat and on the mat sat the cat.
What is contrast?
When unrelated groups of words can be placed side by side to show the contrast between ideas.
What are parenthesis?
Adding extra information using brackets, dashes or commas. But if taken out, the sentence still makes sense. Can be used to better understand setting, or aspects of character.
